American League

The American League (or formally the American League of Professional Baseball Clubs) is one of two leagues that make up Major League Baseball in the United States of America and Canada. It developed from the Western League, a minor league based in the Great Lakes states, that eventually aspired to major league status. The A.L. is often called the Junior Circuit because it was elevated to Major League status in 1901, 25 years after the formation of the National League. Initially in 1903, and then annually from 1905, the regular season champions of the two leagues have met annually in the World Series. (There was also no World Series in 1994, when a strike curtailed the season with no League champion decided.) Through the 2006 season, American League teams have won 60 and lost 42 of the 102 World Series played. Full Article on Wikipedia

“Having him on our team is crazy.”

Quoth Matt Kemp, “Having him on our team is crazy.” Yes, yes it is.Some rank dreaming here, but just imagine if the Dodgers re-signed Manny in the off-season, somehow fixed Andruw Jones, and then had Matt Kemp in right. Now, I love Andre Ethier and hope he sticks around, but think what it would be like to have those three power beasts roaming the outfield! Yikes!

Next year’s third baseman?

With Andy LaRoche on his way to Pittsburgh, and with the rental Casey Blake likely only here this season, all eyes will turn to Blake DeWitt next spring. From the Dodgers minor league report today, seems like DeWitt is doing pretty well so far in his first AAA experience: BLAKE CAN RAKE: INF Blake DeWitt is 6-for-14 (.429) with a double, a triple, two homers, and seven RBI in three games since being optioned to Las Vegas on Saturday…the 22-year-old was selected by the Dodgers in the first round (28th overall) of the 2004 draft.

The trade changed

It's not Kontos and Coke, but Karstens and McCutchen going to Pittsburgh. This definitely makes it look better from Pitt's side, as McCutchen is a fairly high ceiling pitcher, and Karstens already has shown he can be an effective ML pitcher. Both should do better in the NL Central as well.

Casey Blake to Dodgers

UPDATE: it’s officialAnd the countdown begins to Vin’s first mention of “Casey at the bat“. :)ESPN.com: “Source: Indians, Dodgers close to deal sending Blake to L.A.”

Yanks trade Tabata and others for Marte and Nady

The full deal is Jose Tabata, Ross Ohlendorf, George Kontos and Phil Coke. Damaso Marte is an excellent lefty specialist, while Nady is a decent rightfielder. At first glance, I'm not happy.

Thoughts on Shock, Barry and football rules

I'm very conflicted when it comes to Barry Bonds. I hated him for tarnishing the game's history with his PED-enhanced record-breaking homeruns. But if I hated him, shouldn't I also hate Jason Giambi and Andy Pettitte, who have admitted and apologized for PED usage?

Keep Manny Ramirez

The debate, if you really want to call it that, over whether the Red Sox should pick up Manny Ramirez’s options for the next two seasons, seems to have heated up recently. Manny has been in the press for all kinds of “problems” and “issues” lately, from the spat with Youkilis in the dugout, the pushing incident with the Traveling Secretary, and the irrelevant story about him jaywalking in Seattle.

Moose wins no. 13

Has you noticed how rarely Moose has been throwing his changeup recently? He threw just three today - all for strikeouts, and didn't unleash the first until the last pitch of the 7th inning. He's a lot of fun to watch.

Spurs Re-Sign Thomas

After losing out on Corey Maggette and not even attempting to sign J.R. Smith to an offer sheet, it looked like the Spurs only offseason signing would be Roger Mason when Kurt Thomas didn’t immediately re-sign and several teams, including the Lakers, showed interest in signing the veteran big man.

G99: It's the Taylor Tegarden show as Rangers win 1-0

That headline is really unfair to Vicente Padilla, Eddie Guardado, & CJ Wilson, but I think most people will remember Taylor Teagarden most in this game.

It ain't all great memories

(This was written specifically for River Ave. Blues, so now that it's been posted there, I'll do the same here.)Remember when you used to love going to Yankee games? For me, although I certainly did, it’s hard to even recall why.

Tigers History Notes

If you watched the FSN Detroit broadcast of the Tigers-Orioles game on Sunday, you likely heard the answer to the AFLAC trivia question:On this date in 1958, Jim Bunning of the Tigers pitched a 3-0 no-hitter over the Red Sox and fans 12. Only two walks and a hit batsman mar Bunning’s performance as he wins his sixth game in seven decisions (8-6).
