Colorado Rockies

The Colorado Rockies are a Major League Baseball team based in Denver, Colorado. They are in the Western Division of the National League. The team is named after the Rocky Mountains which pass through Colorado. The Rockies joined the National League in 1993, along with the Miami franchise, the Florida Marlins. The Rockies' first pick in the expansion draft was pitcher David Nied from the Atlanta Braves organization. Nied pitched 4 seasons for the Rockies. The team's first home at-bat was a memorable one, as lead off batter Eric Young hit a home run for the Rockies. Full Article on Wikipedia

Smart Guys

Yesterday, on the 5 minute commute from office to home, Boers and Bernstein were discussing Jumbotrons and blowing up the Cubs roster this year. And they absolutely nailed it.Not only are the expectations for the Cubs in the tank nationally (except you know where), but the time to do it may be during the season this year. And they pulled back the curtain on Jim Hendry:"I don't want him making those deals." - Terry BoersExactly.

Can Michael Young reach 3,000 base hits?

MLB.com’s T.R. Sullivan answered the question thusly:Does Michael Young have a realistic shot at 3,000 career hits? -- Maggie W., Burleson, Texas

Cubs 2014

While the physical plant of Wrigley Field is planned to be spruced up for it's 100th anniversary, there's going to be major changes on the field by that time as well. Those changes on the field are likely going to have to pay for the cost of fixing Wrigley (and paying down debt). How do you do that? Bruce Miles has some insights:

Ranger!

Meet Ranger, just rescued from Austin's Town Lake Animal Shelter. Yes, he's sleeping on one of those giveaway Ranger blankets.Texas will win a World Series during his lifetime. Perhaps several.

Greene Gone

Texas voided the contract of infielder KHALIL GREENE. The combination of treatment and lesser expectations apparently weren't enough to bring Greene back onto the diamond. This would be an exceptionally lousy way to lose a career, so best wishes for his recovery.

Playing the Percetanges

Alfonso Soriano is still hurt. Maybe. Maybe not:"I say in my mind I'm 80 percent because I'm not doing anything like playing the field, just more like running and doing some exercises for my knee," he said. "The work that I do in the Dominican is very hard for me. I hope that my knee feels better than I think because I think it's like 85, 80 percent. Maybe when I test it, it's 100 percent.

Job Growth

While the Cubs on the field are pretty much the same as last year (well, 85% of the same in left field), front office changes continue to be made:

Fun Game

Some advice to the NHL and Garry Bettman: Cancel your stupid all star game and just do this every few years.

Let There Be Light!

As pitchers and catchers report, Ivy Chat returns from the darkness to discuss the issues of the day.- Bruce Miles is in first with the Cubs spring training roster. Expect Starlin Castro to move up in his paragraphs going forward.

I Know The Answer!

Do people really not know what Burn Notice is?

She Went into The Light

Zelda Rubinstein (1933-2010)

Golson Traded

In November 2008, I punched out two paragraphs about the Mayberry-Golson trade that could’ve been better expressed with just a weary sigh.

Last Expo In The Hall

Andre Dawson, Hall of Famer. Expo. That's the right decision. For those of you "annoyed" by this, get over yourselves.

Managing Ambiguity

As we bide our time between the end of the Bears season and the start of the Cubs season (wouldn’t now be the perfect time for the Stanley Cup?), there's very little activity for us to follow. That's why small issues get magnified. Issues like the Bears Dave McGinnis-like search for an offensive coordinator.
