Western Conference

The Western Conference of the National Basketball Association is made up of fifteen teams, and organized in three divisions of five teams each. The three division winners are seeded 1, 2 and 3 for the playoffs in order of their record, with all non-division winners seeded 4 through 8. This leaves open the possibility that a #4 seed could have a better record than a #3 or #2 seed. On the other hand, home-court advantage in a playoff series is decided by record, not by seeding, so if a #3 and #4 team met in a playoff series in which the #4 team had the better record, the #4 team would have home-court advantage. The Western Conference playoffs is divided into three rounds, with the winner facing the Eastern Conference champion in the NBA Finals to determine the champion. All playoff series are best-of-seven. The current divisional alignment was adopted at the start of the 04-05 season, when the Charlotte Bobcats began play as the NBA's 30th franchise. This necessitated the move of the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets from the Eastern Conference's Central Division to the newly-created Southwest Division of the Western Conference. Down on the Farm Report - 6/26/07

The Cubs will be making changes and the roster move, or moves, should come later today. Let the speculation begin. Lou Piniella is working with a shortened bullpen, especially with Ryan Dempster being unavailable for the next few games with an oblique injury. Scott Eyre could have helped his position in the pen but after his outing on Monday night, he has likely fallen even further down on Lou Piniella's list.

Brewers Sign LaPorta

The Milwaukee Brewers signed LaPorta today for $2.3 million. He was the seventh overall pick and made quite a sum. It is a good thing for him he didn’t sign with the Red Sox last season. However, in my opinion I think the Brewers wasted a pick. Not only was he not picked to be in the top first half of the draft, but we have Prince Fielder. Maybe this is a ploy to find a replacement if Prince ever demands too much. However, I think this is a bit too much to spend on a first baseman.

Another Proposition for Mr. Dombrowski

I’ve been trying to come up with my own unique spin on how I could possibly dog out Mike Maroth on his way out the door. Alas, I don’t think it can be done. Maroth, from all accounts is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet. Despite the fact he was never a world beater, he really turned his game around these last couple years to become an effective fourth or fifth starter.

Farewell Shooter

Most have heard the bad news, former Giant All Star Rod Beck has passed. The mustache, the hair, and the dangling swinging arm were all characteristics of Beck who was a 3 time All Star with the Giants. While with the Giants, Beck was a rock, a player that the manager could always go to when he needed the help. During the Giants sweet but sour 1993 season, one in which they won over 100 games but failed to make the playoffs, Beck saved 48 games with a minuscule 2.16 ERA.

Chat With Rickie Weeks

If you go to MLB’s website today you can chat with Rickie Weeks. It takes place at 2:30 CST. All you need is an MLB account. Go to the site and sign up for one now so you can get some good insight about Weeks. I personally have registered and hope to ask a question, if I can think of one. Chances are I will just observe what others are asking and partake.

Fixing Interleague Play

I could be wrong about this but this is based on my best recollection of the debate leading up to MLB beginning interleague play.

Rumors Say Brewers Are Looking To Trade

I just read on Yahoo!

Get those credit cards paid down!

According to this morning’s Detroit Free Press the auction of Tiger Stadium is one step closer to reality. In essence, the firm from St. Louis that’s been awarded the contract is saying, “Everything must go!”I think one of those troughs in my basement would look pretty darn good, don’t you?

Former M.U. Midfielder Ince to take over at MK Dons

Ince was a massive success in his first managerial job as he impressively saved Macclesfield from relegation from the league having taken over them when they were rooted to the foot of the table. The performance has given him the opportunity to take over MK Dons, who narrowly missed out on promotion to League One, but that will now be the target for Ince as he continues to build what is tipped as being a long and successful management career."This has been a tremendously difficult decision for me," Ince told the club's official website.

Rod Beck 1968-2007

Another untimely death of a former Red Sox player occured when former relief pitcher Rod Beck was found dead in his Arizona home Sunday.Beck played parts of three seasons in Boston from 1999-2001.

Rod Beck Is Dead

I can’t believe he’s dead he was only 38.

San Diego Looks Pretty Good

I would not be surprised to see the Sox Face the Padres in the World Series. I’m not saying that will happen but I would not be suprised to see it. San Diego has some pretty good pieces.

Brewers Lose In Eleven Innings

For the first time this year the Brewers have lost in extra innings. The Brewers had extra innings in Florida, Chicago, and Texas. However, the first extra inning game at Milwaukee in 2007 was lost. The Brewers should have won the game but once again Derrick Turnbow had issues with control. With a full count and two outs in the bottom of the ninth Corey Hart hit a homer to send the game to extra innings.

Red Sox Eye Buehrle; Chi Sox Like Buchholz, Ellsbury

The Boston Red Sox have emerged as front runners to land Chicago starter Mark Buehrle. Boston is reportedly willing to sign him to a 5-year contract extension as part of the deal.
