Arsenal

Arsenal Football Club (also known as Arsenal, The Arsenal or The Gunners) are an English professional football club based in Holloway, north London. They play in the Premier League and are one of the most successful clubs in English football. Arsenal have won thirteen First Division and Premier League titles, ten FA Cups and in 2005–06 became the first London club to reach the UEFA Champions League final. Arsenal are also members of the G-14 group of leading European football clubs. Arsenal were founded in 1886, in Woolwich, south-east London, but in 1913 they moved north across the city to Arsenal Stadium, Highbury. In May 2006 they left Highbury, moving to their current home, the Emirates Stadium in nearby Ashburton Grove, Holloway. Arsenal have a long-standing and fierce rivalry with neighbours Tottenham Hotspur, located four miles away in Tottenham, with whom they have contested the North London derby almost every season since 1913. Here’s my strongest Arsenal starting side - now tell me yours

There’s very little going on today. Actually, apart from the news that Robin van Persie is in contract talks and the revelation that Theo Walcott didn’t actually want the #14 shirt there’s absolutely nothing going on.

Sagna loves Nasri, Wilshere promoted + Wednesday Poll

A bit of Jack Wilshere, some Samir Nasri and the Wednesday Poll is what’s in store today before I rush off to the movies with the girl for a bit of mid-week relaxation.First up, young Wilshere. I hastily mentioned in yesterday’s post that the 16-year-old Englishman has been rewarded with a spot in the first team this season by Arsene Wenger. Wilshere was given the #19 shirt vacated by Gilberto Silva as a result of his stunning pre-season performances.

Xabi Alonso the final piece? + Arsenal squad review

Hello there, happy Tuesday to you all. I know it’s not the best day of the week - heck, I’d say it’s probably the worst - but what can you do other than try and enjoy it? My sentiments exactly. Anyhoo, moving on…

Arsenal 3-1 Stuttgart + Bischoff signing won’t be the last

Although only a pre-season riendly, last night’s impressive 3-1 win over Stuttgart suggests that things are ticking along quite nicely for Arsenal. The game marked the debut of new signing Samir Nasri and Arsene Wenger gave the Frenchman as well as a host of other senior players their first pre-season runouts.

Arsenal back in action + Gilberto tributes deserved

Can you believe Arsenal are back playing football this weekend?I can’t. It seems like forever since I got to watch the boys play. Sure, there was Euro 2008 to fill the void between now and then but it didn’t quite compare to the feeling I get when I watch an Arsenal game. I’m not from London, I’m not even English, but the love I have watching Arsenal play cannot be rivalled by anything else in my life. I’m sure a lot of you feel the same way.

Hleb finally leaves Arsenal + the Wednesday Poll has spoken

Well, it finally, finally happened. Alex Hleb has officially left Arsenal. The Belorussian midfielder has joined for a fee around £12million and signed a four-year deal with the Spanish club. Hleb had the following to say about leaving Arsenal for Barcelona:

Barcelona confirm Hleb signing

Alex Hleb is finally off to Barcelona. He’s signed a four-year deal and the transfer fee was 15 million euros. All the details here.

Ronaldinho, Adebayor, Gilberto transfer news + Wednesday Poll

Hello there - good to speak to you again. Yesterday’s post about Arsenal’s interest in Gareth Barry got some lovely feedback from the readers and I’m pretty sure today’s news will get something of a similar response.

Arsenal have made an official enquiry about Gareth Barry

It’s always nice to kick off the post with an interesting piece of news and today’s is particularly tasty.

New away kit photos

There are some new photos of next season’s away kits on the official website. You can find them here. The idea behind the kits seem to be a tribute to the title-winning side from 1989 and the photos feature new players like Cesc Fabregas and Theo Walcott mixing with old ones like Steve Bould and Paul Merson.

Quick and to the Point

The ‘Quick and to the Point’ section of the blog will be just that - a space for me to send out short and sweet messages. It could be a video, a useful link or some breaking news on the weekend and it will go right here.

A new look for the Arsenal FC Blog + Weekend news round-up

Hello there. It’s good to write to you again and I hope you’re doing well this fine Monday.

Weekend update: Samir Nasri signs for Arsenal

I don’t usually post on the weekends unless something really important comes up. Obviously this weekend it has.

Sagna says exactly what I’ve been saying about Adebayor

It’s Friday afternoon and I’ve just finished work. “Why aren’t you out drinking and celebrating then, Spanish?”, you ask. “I will be shortly,” I respond, struggling to contain a sly grin, “but first I have to post on the blog.”
