Lacrosse

Lacrosse is a team sport that is played with either ten players (men field) six players (men box, indoor) or twelve players (women), each of whom uses a netted stick (the crosse) in order to pass and catch a very hard rubber ball with the aim of scoring goals (each worth one point traditionally, but Major League Lacrosse uses a two point goal for goals scored from a distance of 15 yards or greater from the goal) by propelling the ball into the opponent's goal. The team scoring the most points after two halves, of varying length from competition to competition, and overtime if necessary, wins. Most popular in North America, lacrosse is Canada's official national summer sport and the fastest growing sport in the United States. In its modern form, men's lacrosse is played on a field of grass, artificial turf, or field turf. Each team is composed of 10 players on the field at a time: three attackmen, three midfielders, three defenders and one goaltender. In men's lacrosse, players wear protective equipment on their heads, shoulders, arms, and hands, as body-checking is an integral part of the game, and stick checks to the arms and hands are considered legal. Women's lacrosse is played in a similar manner except with two additional midfielders per team. Players of women's lacrosse need only wear protective eyewear (except for the goaltender, who wears additional padding, usually consisting of a helmet, shin guards, and chest pad, and most goalies do not wear arm pads), as contact is not permitted apart from minor stick-checks. You Rock, Tommy

I think the reason I, and most of Dodger Nation, loves Tommy is because of his unabashed homerism. He is a true blue Dodger cheerleader. No ways around it. He is "in your face" when it comes to his love of the team and I love him for it.As further proof, check out this series of tweets he put out this afternoon.

Vintage Dodger Stadium 1968

Here are some fan made vintage photos found on eBay from a Sunday afternoon game in 1968. It is June 9th, just three days after the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy, as the Dodgers faced off against the Philadelphia Phillies. As you'll notice, the flags in the outfield are at half-mast and a honor guard is present. With it so soon after his death you know it must have been a solemn day.

Tommy In Taiwan

As you know, the Dodgers are in Taiwan for an exhibition series. So, Tommy decided to share some old pics on twitter from the time they visit the country in 1993. Here they are below.

Russell Martin National Chicle Artwork

Slowly but surely, Topps has been releasing pics from their upcoming National Chicle Baseball set. So far it's looking like it will be filled with some incredible artwork. Per the Card Junk blog, we see even more great drawings. In fact, he points to a Russell Martin piece made by artist Dave Hobrecht. See it below.

eBay: Linnett Dodger Portraits

For 50 cents in 1976 you could get one great drawing of your favorite ballplayer. They were drawn by Charles Linnett from Walpole, MA, and featured pencil drawn portraits. At the time, you could get drawings from every sport imaginable; such as Baseball, football, the NBA, hockey and the Globetrotters. Below are are five different Dodgers recently found on eBay.Don Sutton

Should I be worried.

A Familiar Face

Who could forget this face. "What a team! The fruits of victory!"

Miss Vero?

I was fortunate to have had several opportunities to go to Florida to watch the Dodgers play at Dodgertown in Vero Beach several years ago. I kinda miss the place.Check out a recent view of Holman Stadium below.

eBay: A Smok'n Bum

Here is another one of those 1950's Gibbs-Conners porcelain Brooklyn Bum bank statues. It shows a very happy Dodger with a bat in hand. He sports a dark 5 o'clock shadow as he stands on home plate. On top of that, he happens to have a lit cigar hanging on the right side of his mouth. You know you can never get away with something like this today. You would be publicly vilified throughout the nation in the name of political correctness.

B&L Auctions: Brooklyn's First Major League Ballgame

This is one of the more historically significant Dodger related collectibles you'll ever run into. Below is a vintage 1884 scorecard from the very first professional ballgame on May 5, 1884 at old Washington Park, the former home of the Brooklyn Baseball club. As you may know, the team started as a minor league team in 1883, moved to the American Association (becoming a major league club) a year later in 1884, then the National League in 1890.

More Spring Sights and Sounds

I'm loving these videos from Tigerstripephoto.YouTube Link:

A Dodger Parade at a Giants Spring Training Game?

I had never heard of this. In the video below you can see a parade of Dodger fans making their presence known at the home of the Giants during Spring Training at Scottsdale Stadium. Apparently, this has been an annual event for quite some time. I guess the rivalry starts during the Spring. Does anybody know anything about this?

eBay: Cook's Steak House Honors the Dodgers

So what could possibly be better than the Dodgers and a World Series in 1959 against the White Sox? Well, steak, of course.
