Review: Indian cricket team for Australia series

Indian cricket selectors announced 15-member team for upcoming one-day series against Australia. 20-20 team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was named as captain for these crucial matches. Selectors picked this team for the first three matches against Australia. All-Rounder Irfan Pathan and Spinner Harbhajan Singh returned to the team while Virender Sehwag, Ajit Agarkar, Munaf Patel and Rohit Sharma missed the team bus. Yuvraj will remain as vice-captain. Indian Cricket team for first 3-one day matches against Australia:

Captain: M S Dhoni.
Vice-captain: Yuvraj Singh.
Openers: Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa.
Middle order: Rahul Dravid, Dinesh Karthik.
All-rounder: Irfan Pathan.
Spinners: Romesh Pawar, Piyush Chawla and Harbhajan Singh.
Pace attack: R P Singh, Zaheer Khan, S Sreesanth.

Munaf Patel missed selection due to fitness and attitude problems while Sehwag may have missed due to lack of opening slots. Selection of Irfan Pathan in the place of Ajit Agarkar may relieve some problems for the Indian cricket team.

I can’t understand why Rohit Sharma was dropped without giving many chances. This is not the way to groom young talented players. They may gradually lose confidence in their abilities. 3 Mumbai players were dropped from the team despite powerful lobby.

Dhoni’s progress to the top rank is not surprising considering his uncontroversial nature coupled with sharp cricket brain and matured personality despite enormous popularity. It is rare to see such a level minded youngster among young cricketers. His middle class upbringing helped him in this aspect like Sachin Tendulkar.
