Starting Pitching Where Art Thou?

It’s gotten to the point that BMF finds myself cheering when I hear a starting pitcher has signed with another team.

Carlos Silva is the perfect example. When I heard Silva agreed to a 4yr deal with the Mariners I did a silent cheer in celebration that he wouldn’t be wearing the Orange and Blue.

Kyle Lose this goes for you too. I couldn’t be less excited about the possibility of you being a Met. Sure you could eat some innings at the back end of out rotation but there is talk of a 4 year deal?!? No thanks -- Lets just go with our kids.

No free agent pitcher can hold a candle to Livan Hernandez whose availability has given BMF a recurring nightmare for weeks.

I’m watching TV when SNY suddenly interrupts a poker tournament with breaking news.

Televised poker itself is a nightmare to BMF. I’ve never understood how anyone can watch a bunch of guys playing cards on TV.

Anyway Matt Yallof reports Omar has given Livan Hernandez a lifetime contract to pitch for the Mets. In addition the free agent pitcher somehow cost us a package of about 11 prospects including Gomez, F. Martinez, The Pelf, Humber, Mulvey and even Pedro’s first-born son.

ESPN’s Buster Olney sez the Mets could land Joe Blanton with a package of Gomez, Heilman and Mulvey.

Although I’m a Blanton fan and would love to have him on my team – I think he’s a Hoss on the mound - I say that’s too steep a price. For Santana sure, but Blanton??? No thanks Billy Beane.

Quite frankly I’d rather take a chance on Mark Prior then the other free agents. At least these guys have potential to regain form and potentially have ace stuff.

The longer we go the less I want to trade Gomez and co. I think Car-Go is gonna be a stud in this league and it’s been too long since we actually developed a ML pitcher from within.
