South Australia State League

Our SA correspondent Murph reports that the South Australian State League has been run and won for 2008…

In the Mens League:
Norwood df South 3-0 to win the State League title
Norwood league men have been the stand out volleyball team this year, losing only two games. The return of the league’s best setter and server Andy Hunter, best and fairest Nik West, best attacker and league MVP Travis Moran, along with Rookie of the Year Chris Butterworth and the consistant high standard of best receiver Jason Sidoryan proved too much for all comers this season.

Australian Junior Women blog

The Australian Junior Women have set up a blog. You can check it out here and keep up-to-date with their efforts and exploits in the brightly lit streets of Taipei. Competition begins on the 20th, but there are already some pictures up to look at. Great effort Chau - and good luck!

The Australian University Games needs refs

The Australian University Games are being held in Melbourne from Monday 29th September through until Friday 3rd October and an urgent need exists for experienced players or coaches to referee in this competition.

This is Australia’s largest annual multi-sport event comprising 28 sports in 18 venues, with in excess of 6000 participants. Volleyball, both men’s and women’s, is one of those sports and will be played at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.

Australia finish 4th in Viet Nam Cup

Defending champions Vietnam easily defeated Australia 3-0 to win the bronze medal at the VTV International Women’s Volleyball Tournament - Mobifone Cup yesterday in the southern city of Can Tho.

The game played like a repeat performance of last week win over the Kangaroo rat side 3-0 in the qualifying round last week.

New Philippines blog

I came across this new site the other day, and as I am about to go on holidays, I have done a bit of searching for links, as there are several Asian Championships coming up in the near future. I have set up the blog to re-post these links on October 1st, but it would be a good idea to bookmark these links now if you want to follow the results.

With the 7th Asian Youth Girls Volleyball Championship to be held at the Philsports Multi-Purpose Arena, Pasig City, Philippines from October 11 to 18, the Philippine Volleyball Federation has set up a new blog.

Asian Boys Youth Champs in Sri Lanka Oct 14-22: I haven’t found / there isn’t a Sri Lankan Volleyball site.

Aussies in Finland

Phillip DeSalvo - Eltmann

Aussie volleyballers Phill DeSalvo and Brett Alderman are currently playing a tournament with their German club Eltmann in Finland. As well as playing Finnish teams, they will come up against the Italian A1club Modena.
