2008 Turning Stone Resort Open Final Scores and Earnings

Dustin Johnson's winning score in 2008 was 9-under-279, half of 2007 winner Steve Flesch's total of 18-under-270.

A step in the right direction for the Atunyote Golf Club at Turning Stone Resort. And the beautiful autumn setting is perfect. Too bad this event comes after the main part of the season.

Hope it continues to draw in star names. Maybe if that continues, the PGA Tour can then compare Turning Stone's Official World Golf Ranking field strength with that of any current Fed Ex Cup event, and then - who knows?

Do you use golf drills to improve your technique? Do you feel that golf drills eventually improve your score?

I personally use the book Golf Digest's Book of Drills.

I feel that certain drills help me solidify the mechanics and that it has improved my score.

I know I already have a post about new irons but im now doing a specific post. Im pretty sure I will be getting the Taylor Made r7 irons. I will be getting them at my local Dr. Golf. They have a demo which I will try out. Im looking for 3-PW. What do you guys think??

VERONA, N.Y. — Davis Love III celebrated a double anniversary Thursday, one he didn’t want, and one he did.

The opening round of the Turning Stone Resort Championship marked the first anniversary of surgery to repair tore ligaments in Love’s left ankle sustained when he stepped into a hole playing a casual round of golf.

VERONA, N.Y. (AP) — Tag Ridings stood over his ball at the final hole and gently tapped a short uphill putt for par. When he pulled it and his ball stopped just shy of the cup, he found himself tied for the lead in the Turning Stone Championship.

Seeking his first PGA TOUR win, Ridings wasn’t dismayed as he pondered playing the final round in a twosome with Charles Howell III.

Creamer one stroke behind at Samsung

HALF MOON BAY, Calif. (AP) — Ji-Yai Shin became a household name back home in South Korea and even somewhat in Japan after she won the Women’s British Open in August.

Now, the 20-year-old Shin is interested in raising her profile in the United States - with regular success on the LPGA Tour.

She shot a 5-under 67 on Thursday to take the first-day lead in the Samsung World Championship, topping Paula Creamer’s 68 that featured a birdie on 17 following a bogey on the previous hole.

“Everybody knows me as the British Open champion,” Shin said. “In Korea, the players say: ‘Don’t come back to Korea.

Jeff Overton leads Turning Stone Resort Championship

VERONA, N.Y. (AP) — The sky cleared just in time for Jeff Overton.

Teeing off on what became a bright late afternoon after a cold, soggy morning, Overton shot a 5-under 67 on Thursday to take the first-round lead at the Turning Stone Resort Championship, the second stop on the PGA Tour’s Fall Series.

Overton, who started at the 10th hole, made three birdies on the front side to take a one-shot lead over Michael Allen and Steve Allan.

Tag Ridings, Carlos Franco, and Jason Day were tied for fourth at 69.

John Daly might play European PGA Tour in 2009

(AP) — John Daly, PGA European Tour star?

The two-time major champion told The Associated Press on Thursday that he’s considering all of his options for 2009, including playing regularly on the European tour.

“I know in Europe there are still a million opportunities to play,” Daly said. “It’s a great tour. Guys on that tour have shown themselves and proved themselves to be great players.”

Daly’s play, however, has been far from great.

The 42-year-old Daly has made just five cuts in 16 events this year, bringing in just $56,017. His best finish was a tie for 40th at the Viking Classic and he plummeted to No.

I Need Help With Choosing Clubs

I started playing golf about 3 months ago and not trying to sound full of myself but I've practiced really hard and gotten pretty good. My best score over nine was 51 which I know isn't great but I'm proud of it and it is probably good enough to get my on my schools golf team. Anyways, the clubs I'm using are a really old set of wilsons that my friend say he got for 100 bucks a long time ago plus a Ping G5 6-Iron my coach gave me. I know almost NOTHING about clubs but from what I have heard the G5 irons are "game improvement" irons and I shouldn't be using them but the one I have feels pretty nice, especially compared to my wilsons. I'm looking to buy a whole new set but first I need to know what to keep in my bag. I suck with fairway woods so I was thinking about some sort of hybrid. So would something like this be good to have in my bag? Driver, 2 Hybrids, 3-9 Irons, Sand Wedge, Pitching Wedge, and Putter?
I also need a recommendation of what clubs I should buy for all of these. I know thats a lot to ask but whatever you feel like contributing is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Tiger Woods Tops BusinessWeek’s List of Most Powerful People in Sports

He may be sidelined with that knee injury, but that didn’t stop BusinessWeek magazine for honoring Tiger Woods with its top slot in the second annual “Power 100″ list of the Most Powerful People in Sports. In fact, he is the only currently-active athlete in the top 14 and the only golfer on the list. Others in the top spots include NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell; ESPN’s George Bodenheimer; Nike’s Phil Knight; and Dick Ebersol, the Chairman of NBC Sports.

Other athletes on the list include Lance Armstrong (#15), LeBron James (#17), Peyton Manning (#29), and Kobe Bryant (#28). PGA Tour Commissioner, Tim Fincham was listed at #27.

The rankings were determined by a panel of 35 athletes, executives, marketers, writers, and academics. Criteria included how each individual rates vs. his or her peers; how much money each controls, generates, or influences; and the breath of power of their impact. “The Power 100″ will be featured in BusinessWeek’s October 13 issue. The complete list is also available on the magazine’s Web site.

The Tommy Armour web site lists some new 845HS irons. Has anyone actually seen any, or know where some info can be had about them? :hmmm: There's no link on the factory website. I would like to find out about these successors to the famous 845 series.
