World Cup Preview: group stage

All the 16 times are divided into four groups with 4 teams in each group.

In my opinion, watching the group stage cricket matches is a sheer waste of times. As 2 teams out of the four will advance to next round, these matches are just for marketing purposes.

My Predictions:

Group A:

Australia ans South Africa will get first and second places successively.

Group B:

India and Sri Lanka will advance to next round.

Group C:

This group may show some surprise results. Kenya is no more a push over in international matches especially in one-days. New Zealand will get first place.

Group D:

Pakistan has good team while West Indies has home support. Never under estimate this West Indies team in one day matches.

No surprises. No tension. Just time pass in group matches. Only records against lower ranked teams.

World Cup preview: Indian batting line up

Indian batting stars are peaking up at the right time for 2007 cricket world cup. It is a bad news for opposition teams. India is the only team in world cricket who can beat Australians on their day. On their day, it can blast opposition bowlers to all over the park. They reached 2003 world cup finals just basing on their batting strength. All the batting stars of Indian team are in the scintillating form against West Indies team in the recent one day series. If they can fire on all cylinders in the upcoming world cup, India can world cup 2007.

Indian batting stars:

1. Sachin Tendulkar:

Irrespective of his form before the world cup, he played superbly in all the previous world cups.
If he gets form even before the world cup, it is a bad sign for opposition teams. He scored a 76-ball hundred in a scintillating display of stroke play in the final one day against West Indies.

2. Sourav Ganguly:

He is back to his best. He is the in form batsman in the famed Indian batting line up. Runs are just flowing from his bat. He is the most dangerous south paw and Best off side player in the International cricket. He is playing short balls also very well.

3. Rahul Dravid:

Wall is getting stronger and harder before world cup. He played consistently well in the West Indies series.

4. Mahendra Singh Dhoni:

He hits sixers from Yorker length balls. He is the most destructive batsman in the world cricket after Adam Gilchrist. He is very useful in the final overs. It is difficult to describe his shots and style.

5. Robin Utappa:

This young opener is the latest sensation from India. He is the “new Sehwag”.

6. Dinesh Karthik:

He is providing stability to batting if top order fails.

Only missing name is Yuvraj Singh. He has just returned to International cricket after injury.

Final Analysis:

Is it frightening? Can they repeat this performance in the world cup? Indian fans are in upbeat mood. Can their stars play to their potential on foreign piches? If they will play to their potential, India can win 2007 world cup. Batting is always India's strength.

Australian Cricket star Adam Gilchrist said that New Zealand is the most dangerous team in this world cup. After their bid for a stunning run chase which was missed by just 8 runs, odds are suddenly raised favoring New Zealamd. They are always dark horses in worldcups. They have the suitable players for one day cricket like Jacob oram and James Franklin.
1. They have one of the bowling line ups with the likes of Shane Bond and Daniel Vettori.
2. They have the dangerous middle-lower order players like Jacob Oram and Brendum Mccullum.
3. Scintillating form of all rounder Jacob orum.
4. Stephen Fleming is the most shrewedest captian in International cricket.

Indian world cup final squad will be announced on february 11th or 12th:

Indian selectors will select their world cup squad either on February 11 or 12. Indian Cricket board secretary Niranjan Shaw said that Selectors will meet either in Mumbai or Rajkot to select the final squad. With the recent rise of Gautham Gambhir, Sorav Ganguly, Robin Utappa, Dinesh Karthik and Romesh Pawar, there is a severe competion for places especially for opening slots. Virender Sehwag may miss the final berth for the cricket world cup 2007.

The Indian will be landed in Caribbean Islands on March 1st.

New Zealand will play in Group C along with England, Kenya and Canada. It is the favorite team to top their group.Final 15 member squad will be announced on February 13. New Zealand has a strong bowling line up while batting is its weak link. New Zealand is a good one day team and is a perennial under dog in the world cup.

England selectors announced the 30-man squad for the Cricket world cup 2007 to be played in the West Indies. Darren Gough, Ian Blackwell and Tim Bresnan lost their places as they are unable to prove their fitness. Geraint Jones and Marcus Trescothick were the major misses in the squad. England will play in Group C along with New Zealand. Kenya and Canada. Final 15 member squad will be announced on February 13.

South Africa and Zimbabwe announced provisional squads for the Cricket World cup 2007. According to the ICC Cricket World Cup regulations, all the participating countries and regions should have registered a 30-man squad by the 13th of January 2007.

A player or players not in the initial list can still be added because the composition of the 30-man squad is open to change until the 13th of February 2007.

After February 13, every team should announce 15 member final squad for the world cup.
