Best AB of Minky's spring

Today's game showed how solid a hitter Dmint can be. In the 5th inning, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and no outs, he fell behind 0-2. He fouled off several close pitches, working the count to 3-2 before lining a fastball into the RF corner for a two-run double. It gave the Yanks a 5-1 lead. It's at-bats like his that make the difference between a win and loss. A phenomenal situational at-bat. The idea was to at least get a sac-fly/grounder, but Dmint didn't like the first two pitches, and had enough bat control to foul off the close ones to force a hitter's count (3-2), and find a hittable pitch to not just get the sac RBI but to get the XBH RBI.

Igawa pitched well again: 5 ip, 1 er. Again, not a great ball-strike ratio, but I'd wager without seeing the stats that he threw the most first pitch strikes today than any game to date.

The big blow was Arod jumping on a first pitch fastball and destroying it over the LCF scoreboard. The inning was set up when Jeter reached on an error and Abreu worked a walk (surprise, surprise).

Matt Smith showed how the Yanks will be vulnerable to lefty specialists. He pitched 1.1 perfect innings - he struck out Arod and Matsui, and induced weak pop-ups from Abreu and Giambi.

Willie confirms Pelfrey makes the team

http://mets.lohudblogs.com/
"Mike Pelfrey walked into Willie Randolph’s office and less than five minutes later walked out with a smile and the announcement": ``They told me I made the team.’’

Can't say I didn't see it coming Pelfrey pitched great all spring (except for today) and really earned his spot in the bullpen. The most important things for Pelfrey from now to his first regular season start sometime in mid April, is him working on his off-speed pitches during bullpen sessions. Now Willie said he made the team, does that mean Pelfrey will work out of the pen? Or does it mean OK you made the team but until its your time to start go to AAA.

Pelfrey should provide the Mets a very good #5 starter if nothing else, and he was the best possible options. Congratulations Mike you earned it.

Mets lose Milledge hurt

Mets lost the Astros today 11-3 on a day where Lastings Milledge was hit hard in the 9th inning.

Mike Pelfrey:Started the game, the day after he found out he would be the #5 starter. Pelfrey had his worst outing of the spring pitching 5 innings giving up 4 ER 6 H while striking out 2. ERA 2.84

Jorge Sosa:Sosa must of been pretty upset he didn't make the team. He showed it today pitching .2 innings giving up 6 ER.

Aaron Heilman and Billy Wagner both pitched 1 scoreless inning each both giving up 1 hit

Again the offense was quiet though

Jose Valentin: had a 2 RBI double with the bases loaded.

Lastings Milledge was hit by a pitch in the 9th inning on his hand. He was in a lot of pain and was forced to come out of the game. Lets hope it's not anything serious because that would just give the Mets another excuse not to start him.

Fox Sports #8 Prospect In MLB F-Mart

From Foxsports.com

"8. Fernando Martinez, CF, Mets

Age: 18
Acquired: Non-drafted free agent, 2005, Dominican Republic

Martinez was tremendous in his full-season debut, but he scuttled a bit after a promotion to High-A St. Lucie. Still, his performance was thoroughly impressive for a 17-year-old. On the field, he's impressive on a number of levels. He's got speed, a quick and level bat through the zone, good range in center and a polished approach overall. The only question is whether he'll develop the power. Considering his success against much older competition and his natural hitting skills, the power will probably come."

Now I'm a huge F-Mart fan and I can't wait for him to be on the Mets.. But calling him a #8 prospect based on "He Should" and "He Will" is wrong. I love F-Mart and I do believe that he will become a big time player, but until he shows something in the Minors that proves he will hit these 30+ homeruns, I just don't think he should be ranked higher then guys like Mike Pelfrey, Andrew Miller,Luke Hochevar, and Andy Laroche. I guess this is why I'm not a scout rating top prospects. But either is Dayn Perry (sorry I had to)
